I have never been good at goodbyes.
I never know what to say, what to feel –
sorrow, grief, anger, joy?
So much to say yet I get my tongue tied tight.
Do I hug them and smile, let tears run dry,
or do I just kiss them goodbye?
And what when it’s not really farewell?
Just a see you soon or until next time?
Does the grief of separation still hold as much value?
she said “shhh stupid, it’s just a little while.”
But it’s been a little too long now.
“She’s gone now.” They said,
But I’ll wait here.
I’ll wait here until we meet again.
And if we do, please don’t leave.
I have never been good at goodbyes.
